My very first hard ground print! Results.

in art •  7 years ago

Good Saturday fine people!

Today I am sharing an etching that I made the other day. It's my very first time making a hard ground etching as my experience with printmaking only has been drypoint.

I had THE BEST time working on this print and learning about how to work with hard ground.
When you print hard ground you first have to cover your plate with acid-resistant coating that will protect the areas of your plate that you don't want to ink up later.
Then the next step is the same as dry point. You use a sharp needle like tool to scratch inn your desiered design on the plate.
Finally you leave the plate in an acid resolution to develope the print. This time I used a zink plate but you can also use copper.

I am very new to this way of printing and still feel like I have no idea how to really go about it. But I can't wait until next week! I am currently working on a couple of copper plates at home to bring for my next session and I am super excited to see what they will look like.

Any ways.. Here are the results from my previous and FIRST hard ground etching session;

I decided to go for a cameleon as I've wanted to do a series of exotic animals for a long time.
Next up is... The peacock!

so beautiful print! In the past my hubby realized some etching prints with the help of some old artists. I know it's not a simple tecnique, but the result is very impressive!

Thank you so much sweet @silviabeneforti! :D It is for sure it's very own artform that requires a lot of practice to master! :) I hope one day to gain a true understanding of this beautiful method! <3
