Walks around Saint-Petersburg#20.

Another notable building on the embankment of the Fontanka River is the Tolstoy House. This is the unofficial name of the building, but it is widespread among the residents of St. Petersburg. The house was built in 1910 - 1912 according to the project of the Russian-Swedish architect Fedor Ivanovich Lidval. The customer of the project was Major General, Count Mikhail Pavlovich Tolstoy (grand-nephew of the hero of the Patriotic War with Napoleon, 1812, Peter Alexandrovich Tolstoy). Apparently since then the house has received the name - Tolstovsky house.

This house connects Fontanka embankment and Rubinshteina street with its courtyards. The style of the architectural construction is Northern Modern. The yards and buildings are beautiful and unique. They form a whole block and are interconnected by gates and arches.

During the construction in the house were provided and placed laundry, shopping malls, recreation areas, fountains and lawns with flower beds. In the house, elevators were installed everywhere and a water pipe was installed. People inhabited the house mostly higher levels of society, living in luxurious suites, although for modest estates were assigned small living areas.

I often walk near this house and always pulls me to look inside the courtyards, walk there and enjoy the beauty of the architectural style of the house.

I'm glad if you liked the story about this structure and some photos. I wait for you again on walks in Petersburg.

thank you nice..

beautiful scenery. greetings from small fish

Great shots as always and the architecture is simply splendid. Interesting how they used to put so much care into what you would expect to be a simple building. It is the same in New York. You can walk by the old buildings and never notice. But if you stop you see beauty that they rarely do any more. thanks and please keep taking beautiful shots of interesting places.
