This cub began with a crayon. I don't have many colors so I used an edit on the computer later for the final picture. Today is national crayon day and time to pick up crayon and do something with it. If you need to put it in your mouth then do that, but I suggest getting a piece of paper and drawing the first thing that comes to mind.
This cubby begins with a heart and a circle. The rest is just lines and circle and some big feet.
No one can introduce a topic like crayons in the eyes of children better than Mister Rogers. He did a whole episode on crayons, especially the yellow crayons. Today children grow up with crayons in their hands and sometimes in their mouths, but it wasn't always that easy to get pigments and colors for children. The wax crayons we see today go back only about a hundred years and twenty years to Binney and Smith. Before that chalk was used for coloring.
It's a creativity day. Time to turn off the tablet and paint programs and go simple. Just take a bunch of crayons and see what comes out.
Crayons
The punchline is music. I love this song and in the spring time I think about the colors all around. There is no way I can even begin to draw them all with crayons.
Here is Raffi's version of De Colores. It's amazing he can sing this with so many kids walking around. I have respect for him as a teacher.
Finally relax with Joan Baez. It's good music to listen to while scribbling with your crayons like a four year old.
