You're free now!
Go find a wife and make a whole bunch of freak babies!
Anyway.
Obviously, it's not a real Flutterby. Just another example of my wild imagination getting lost in the forest of trees that don't exist, again.
You'll miss a lot of what's actually there, if you don't pay close attention. As usual though, I don't really want to give much away. It's more fun when you think you see something, then wonder if I did that on purpose, or what.
These things usually take a long time. I had been working on that for about six days, in between other projects; spending a few hours here and there.
Couldn't decide on a background. I had probably spent about two hours working on one and then thought, no! That looks like crap!
So, whatever, I just used a simple image of a lake I produced awhile back.
Since The Flutterby is saved as an individual layer, I'll be able change that background and swap it out with something else, if I ever wanted to use him inside of some creative writing, for instance. A lot of my work is saved in that fashion, especially when it comes to some of these characters I've produced over the years:
Total freedom...
when it comes to digital art.
Nothing needs to be a finished forever product, unless that's what I intend to do with it. I have plenty of work complete, yet I can spend a few more hours adding bodies or placing these characters into environments that better suit a story line. It's quite normal. They certainly don't draw Homer Simpson from scratch for each frame needed to finish an episode of The Simpsons. Drawings get reused constantly.
Anyway...
It seems I'm rambling again.
But I guess that's still better than spending hours upon hours working on The Flutterby, slapping it down here inside the blog, saying nothing, and calling it a post.
Yeah...
This is amazing. The thing I like most about your art is that there is always more to it the more you look at it. It also has a rorschach test feel to it, where it can be somewhat open to interpretation as well. The best art captivates its audience and allows them to find meaning within it and you have mastered that.

Ever since I started developing this style, for the most part, I've stayed quiet. I prefer people to find their way out of the maze on their own. Sometimes people will see things I didn't put there intentionally, then I get to play a game of Where's Waldo as well.
Did you notice this guy:
Some of the stuff, up close, doesn't look like much. It's designed to stand out from a distance. There's another one in the antenna, near the base.

I didn't notice that one. I do like the guy in the middle with the hat holding the orbs though, (at least that is what I see). There are a lot of profile shots of heads incorporated in the image.

Those guys and gals taking center stage like that is a common theme. They ride up front and call all the shots. Same with the side profiles of faces, common theme. There should be five obvious pairs and a few more not so obvious.

I really appreciate you reiterating that things take a long time and saying how long you've spent working on something (even if you have to round it to days XD) as quite often I feel thoroughly inferior and slow for taking so long to do things when often they just take that long to do.
The flutterby is amazing. And that sky in the background is pretty magical, I love how the colours flow together ^_^ I don't remember seeing it before which could mean this is the first time I've seen it or that I don't remember seeing it before.
You could totally just drop an image and call it a post. But your ramblings are fun XD

For many who surround us, acquiring an image is only a few clicks away. Some download, some snap and upload. Then there are the creators who take the time to build these things from scratch and I think the odd reminder here and there, pointing out these things require more than the snap of the fingers, is healthy. Even when I look at photography, I can tell if the photographer went out of their way or simply snapped a picture of their day. There's always more to the story and it's often overlooked when all one can see is the finished product.

I don't know why but it reminded me of a time when my sister (who checks these things occasionally) found one of her pieces had been stolen. The person who was pretending it was their work claimed it had taken them "a couple of hours" to do and me and my sister were snickering as we knew how long it had taken her to do (a bit longer than a couple of hours).

Some things I can finish in a couple of hours but nothing like this. I wasted "a couple hours" on the original background. I can still use that as a 'base' for something though. All is not lost.

What an odd thing to place there, hey! It's either good, or it's going places.

If you turn it upside down, it's Gizmo from the gremlins. Awww, he's so cute.
Strong features on those side dudes, I think they call it a Roman nose...

That's one thing I forgot to do. Turn it upside down. And now I'm too lazy, plus my neck hurts from a little spill on the dirtbike, so I can't turn my head and do it the easy way.

I like that, kind of like a hunt and seek picture, the more you look the more you find. oddly I find the thumbs up rather interesting. And then the part that looks like a fist grasping a dagger real tight, like it is afraid to let it go.
Your art always leaves more to be seen. In six days if I revisit it, I am sure I will see different things, That is what makes it so compelling.

This one was starting to drive me a bit crazy. The previous one I had done, of a similar style, where it looked like a parrot at first glance; I felt I made things too obvious in that one. So this one I wanted to hide things a little better, but there's so much I hid, I don't think even on the third or fourth look people will see it all.

I enjoy making the freaky shit. Easy for me to take that as a compliment.
I'm also really happy to see someone actually showed up. Thanks man.

The flutterby looks pretty cool to me. I mean, it could come and eat my heart out while I sleep but that's what sleeping partners are for.

It doesn't eat hearts. Just limbs and heads, mostly.

I think I said, way back a long time ago, that I might use that background for something, someday. Usually the lake is where I'd see a strange looking Flutterby, because they have weird bugs there, so it seemed fitting.

Looks to me like he already has lots of babies. Dozens of them are hanging off his wings, something like a mommy spider trotting around with her hoards on her back. Charming fellow - nobody can resist a creature that trained dogs to lick his armpits.

It certainly is tough to get those dogs to stay still for that long. There's a tiny little castle on top of a mountain peak, as one of the ears.

Creepy! What's creepier is that I was making a piece of decoration on the balcony late at night on Monday when suddenly a HUGE yellow moth came and kept fluttering against the wall. I hope it wasn't performing any mating calls for your Flutterby? I'm not sure I could deal with lots of creepy flutterby babies around here!

The mating calls sound like the noises one hears when the neighbor doesn't know how to play the trumpet. Terrible sound. They're cute when they're young though. Just don't feed them after midnight.
