Oil and water

I've been drawing a sea of colour using a watercolour resist technique of combining watercolours with oil pastel. I used the same technique in my previous post Little Houses.

I built up coloured lines on paper with the oil pastel before adding watercolours, the watercolours resist the areas of the paper where the oil pastel is.

You can see how the watercolour sits on top of the oil pastel, I could wipe this off at this stage but I like the effect of it drying on top of the oil pastels.

For the final touch I used white acrylic paint to add a small boat with three figures and white highlights on the water.

Have a great day!

Vibrant and colorful indeed.

Hey did you steal my kids art project? His 1st grade teacher posted a photo of you in the lounge! :P

Wow, so colorful and beautiful! Resteemed!

what a very interesting technique.

Another colorful post :) Does watercolor actually dry and stick? Or some of it does fall away after drying out actually? P.S. Boat touch was so cute :) Such a small detail that adds so much to the image :)

It always stays for me- I imagine if you wet it again it would come away. I think something like a gouache would flake off.

Wonderful painting! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much!

Ooo love this! I haven't worked with oil pastels in ages.

Give it a go!

Wish i had your skills ...

This is a pretty simple technique, why not give it a try?

Good job on mixing mediums together to create that effect. I also like how you used white to highlight the boat and used lines to signify the motion of the page and the reflection of the boat against the sun. And nice use of scale to create an illusion of space.

Thank you very much for this reading of the image.

framing is everything. nice.

Thank you @teamhumble!

@opheliafu, the photos of your paintings are so vivid. And the format is so easy on the eyes and draws you to the end of the article.

Keep up the great work. The stop motion video was a great touch.

Thank you- I spend a lot of time on my formatting, so i appreciate your feedback!

Very colorful :) thank you for sharing

Beautiful work dear friend @opheliafu I like the color combination you have used, congratulations.
Thank you very much for this wonderful job

This is awesome! :) beautiful colors, turned out great.

I will try this technique!.. thanks for sharing this amazing tutorial

beautiful!!!!

Hello, Your paintings are very nice, I was struck by the combination of colors. so much so tha resteem. greeting

A little question about the technique: how do you deal with the blots when you're finished? Or you just leave them there to get dry?

I like the effect of them drying on the oil pastel but if you don't want that then use a bit of tissue to lightly blot the surface

i just have some troubles with dust covering it with time, pretty hard to remove from oil pastel. Or it's just my pastel, that still colors and sticks after years;)

GREAT work! Keep at it! If you have any questions about the art contest, you may leave your message on my post about it. ❤️

Wooooow !!! I really love this 😍. I never thought about this technique! I already tried several things, but never this one. I will for sure try it out !

Many thanks for sharing and for your nice presentation of the instructions !
