Christmas baubles

Time for some shiny Christmas baubles!

I decided to try a new technique today when using my oil pastels and watercolours to draw Christmas baubles, it involved a paperclip!

Firstly, I wanted to create the effect of shiny coloured glass. I built up lighter sections of oil pastels to suggest the reflections of light in the glass.

I had built up layers of colour with the oil pastels and watercolours but then I wanted to add a delicate pattern. I thought it would be interesting to use a bent paperclip to scrape through the layers of oil pastel to carve in my design.

Next I added several layers of dark watercolours over this, allowing the colour to soak into the gaps that I had created using the paperclip. I like how this new technique turned out and I think it's something I'll do again with future work.

Really beautiful lady @opheliafu, I do not understand any technique, I only know when something I like and I like this very much, I have to confess that since childhood I have weakness for Christmas decorations. Congratulations

Thank you. It's pretty basic stuff- water resists the oil, I just manipulate those properties.

It is very beautiful! @opheliafu Just like the legends you tell on your page @jlufer :)

That's brilliantly done :0) resteemed

They are beautiful, now you need to draw the tree and lights :)

Are you setting me work? It's Christmas!

It will help you if you can't think of what to do next, I was helping :)

:D xx

You have so many different art techniques -- and still you are experimenting! That's an artist, alright! ; )

How else will I progress? I do enjoy the 'what if ?' approach to making art.

: )

it is very very beautiful, have no words @opheliafu

WEEEEE!!!! Look at the possibilities with oil pastels!
I just did a drawing of a creepy dude using marker and oil pastels but something's missing. Maybe a little water color for that extra something! Hmm. I may have to play a little more with it.

Depending on the type of markers used, you may find adding water bleeds the pen. If controlled this can be a really nice effect.

lovely ornaments.

Really nice effect. Love the colors you used.
