Why am I supposed to have just one style, as an artist?

in art •  8 years ago

I paint, draw and sculpt using different styles. I have always done this way.

For the Art Market, it is bad

So it goes.

But I think - and hope - things will change, becouse styles, in art, today are becoming just languages. The content of an artwork (the content, not the meaning) is what is going to matter more and more. The content, not the language.

Of course, that content can be a hoax. It could be. It happens. I don't care.

(I think @arthuradamson can understand what I mean ;) )

As an artist i do have a harsh opinion toward abstract painting. I only have one exception, if u can draw the one on the right, then you are free to paint whatever you want including abstract. My problem is with the ppl who throw paint on canvas and cant draw a stick figure. I think they cant call themselves artists.

I believe you have to go through the process of learning the fundamentals of art in order to break them later.

It may be a snobby opinion, but i believe art is a craft that shouldnt be faked. You cant fake being a musician or a pharmacist why should we give a free pass in art?

that's a good point, with a very few exceptions :)

Many artists generally find their own style after they've gone through a lots of different styles. I think much of the reason for picking a personal style is that they get recognized easier by their own audiences.

it's been so till now. I hope it will change

I'm sure it will, eventually. No need to fret over it. :)
