Dreaming of Tomorrow - Copic Marker Drawing

in art •  8 years ago

This is the second drawing in my new series, where I portray endangered species.

African elephants are the largest land animals on Earth. They are red listed as vulnerable, meaning they're facing a high risk of extinction in the wild (source).

How the drawing was made

The concept sketch
I did a super easy concept sketch to help me decide what colors to use.

Concept sketches are very helpful to do if you're not sure how you want make your drawing or if you have multiple ideas ant can't decide on which you like the most.

@jonasontheroof , this is for you ^_^ lol

The sketch
Once I decided on my concept, I started on the actual sketch. I used a regular mechanical pencil for the for most of the drawing, and lined important parts of the elephants head with a warm gray multiliner.

The coloring
I usually draw during the night, and I only have a small lamp with yellow light, so that's why all these images have a yellow tint.

I used the following markers for the entire drawing:

  • W0, W1, W2, W5
  • Y0000, Y000, Y11, Y13
  • V000, V12, V15, V17
  • RV000, RV10

The finished drawing
I added some details and touched up a few areas using colored pencil, and added highlights using white color pencil and white gel pen.

Thank you so much :D I really appreciate the offer, I'm sending you a DM on the chat tonight. Thanks so much ^_^

Wow, thanks a lot @pixielolz :D Yes, I like concept sketches. But I really love the finished artwork! The composition is great, the flowers and everything. You do have beautiful ideas and definitely a huge talent for bringing them alive with pencils and markers.

Elephants are also wonderful creatures. We homo sapiens may perish at our own hands, but let's not fuck it up for the elephants. Elephants are awesome.

Thank youuuu, I really appreciate it ^_^ And yeah, I agree <3

This is gorgeous. I find your use of complementary colors aesthetically pleasing. The elephant and flowers have a lot of depth.

Thank you so much ^_^

Beautiful work, that elephant is adorable! The little white spot highlights you have added at the end finish it off wonderfully. Look forward to your next post, following you.

Thank you :D Both for the comment and the follow ^_^

I've put you in my latest post :D

Elephants are the only animals who remember everything! It is a fact! Therefore, they are the wisest!

Hello friend @pixielolz I really love your art! :)
This is a picture of my old best friend pony (Raia). If you got the time and want to, I would love to see a drawing of her as a Pokemon :D <3

When I decide to try to draw a horse/pony again I'll use this one as a ref :D. Maybe I'll make her into a unicorn or something ^_^

wow such beautiful detailed work.

Woah nice! good work on the blending, what paper do you use? :D

Beautiful work, I will have to look at more of your work when I have an opportunity.
