Majora's Mask - From sketch to finished artwork

Anyone up for some nostalgia? I bring to you - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

The drawing process

The sketch

I messed up several times when lining this piece. My hands are stiff and I have reduced fine motor skills, due to the nerve damage in my arm. So I struggle a lot with small details and linework. This day, lining turned out to be especially difficult. Anyway, I decided to keep it, since I was almost certain that the dark colors of the mask was going to hide the lines.

I used a new paper for this drawing. Strathmore Mixed Media 400 series (I also have the 300 series, and it's not at all similar), and I absolutely love this paper with copics. Effortless blending and very little feathering. Perfect!

The coloring process

I started with the lighter colors, to keep the dark colors from bleeding over the lines, onto the lighter parts.

I wanted to go with darker colors than the original, and try to make it look like old, low-pigmented paint on a wooden mask. For the red I used red mixed with warm browns, and for the blueish parts I used blue mixed with cold browns.

Time for the eyes. I used the same kind of red as above and blended it to orange and yellow. Green in the middle.

Lastly, I drew the black parts and the spikes.

Highlights

I added highlights using white prismacolor pencil. It really made the mask pop. It's crazy how much some white color pencil can add to a drawing.

I also added some details on the spikes, using brown and white prismacolor pencils.

Background

I decided on a dark green, cloudy background. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

White border around the mask, to make it stand out from the background. I used sakura white gelly roll for this.

My favorite time of the day

Night - going into sunrise. It's so pretty, and it's part of the reason why I almost always draw at night. It just feels so nice going to bed when the sun is rising, like this (I have posted this photography before, but the sky is so beautiful that it deserves a repost):

I was first introduced to your artwork through your illustration of liberosist's story, and was hooked! I've loved your posts and the art you've been sharing on Steemit.
I saw that you sell some art on Etsy already, and thought you might be interested in selling it on Peerhub.com (you can read more about it here). It is a marketplace that is focused around Steem dollars and the Steemit community. We're holding a raffle this week with a pool of 150 SD if you post an item on the site. I will also be making a weekly post highlighting newly listed items in the marketplace that could potentially help your art reach a wider audience :-)

Straight down memory lane! I picture of Link would be super sweet!
