Not happy with some of the shots from a previous post, I decided to make a couple more butterflies and try shooting them on different background.

Turns out that shooting the origami models proved as tricky as making them.

Still unhappy with the result but I don't think I can do much more with a phone camera and little experience with photography...

Any photographers that specializes in macro photography who might have some tips or interested in working with these orchid petal miniature origami models, I'd love to hear from you.

Can you pin the butterflies such that they float a little above the surface beneath? In addition, play with the light - let it shine from the side/top and move the light source until you see that the generated shadows emphasize the shapes and form.

I am not exactly sure how I might go about mounting something so small so as not to destroy it in the process. I assume that letting the object float a little above the surface will help the shape stand out more? Yes, I should have done a bit better with the light source but there is an additional problem with the flower petals being semi-translucent and having to work out how the light interacts with the origami model. Have you had experiences with similar materials?

I don't have experience with this kind of photography, but I was thinking about how butterflies and insects are typically displayed. The semi-translucent nature might be a bit of a challenge but I'd still expect to see shadows if you move the light source around; also experiment with the distance.
