Pearl S. Buck
Pearl Sydenstricker Buck was an American writer. In 1932 she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
In 1938 she was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for her epic depictions of Chinese peasant life and for her biographical masterpieces.
Her parents lived in the Empire of China and travelled back to the USA for Pearl's birth. In the same year, however, they returned to China, where they settled in Huai'an for the time being.
In 1911 she began her studies in Lynchburg, Virginia, but three years later she returned to China, where she married a missionary.

1938 erhielt sie einerseits für ihre epischen Schilderungen des chinesischen Bauernlebens, andererseits für ihre biografischen Meisterwerke den Nobelpreis für Literatur.
Ihre Eltern lebten im Kaiserreich China und reisten für Pearls Geburt zurück in die USA. Noch im selben Jahr kehrten sie jedoch zurück nach China, wo sie sich vorerst in Huai’an niederließen.
1911 startete sie ihr Studium in Lynchburg, Virginia, kehrte jedoch drei Jahre später nach China zurück, wo sie einen Missionar heiratete.
