OK, on to the next mural...

Grants Pass Murals #12!

"The Gateway Mural"

This mural is located at 409 Union Ave., Grants Pass.

This mural is a very large mural!  Probably the largest one here in Grants Pass (I'm guessing). Because it's so big, I took many, many photos of it!!  You don't really realize how big this mural is just by driving by. I've driven by this mural many, many times over the past few years, and it wasn't until I got out of my car and walked up t it to take these photos that I really experienced how big this thing is!  It is long, and very tall!  Just walking up to it - the mural starts at maybe 5 ft up from the ground, and just goes up from there. There must have been scaffolding involved!

This is another mural painted by Bob Eding. I know Bob. I worked with Bob last year when we were both working on our bear sculptures. So, I talked with him many times, introduced him to some of my music, and got to know him as a friend.

Here's a link to a post of another of Bob Eding's murals. He is extremely talented, and makes it look easy.

When I first saw this mural starting to be painted (it took him about a year and a half or longer to finish it), I didn't know who was painting it, and I didn't know Bob. Now, after knowing him and spending some time with him, I appreciate this mural even more.  And, walking up close to it, and noticing some little details that I didn't see just driving by - makes it even cooler!  There are things that you can only see up close.  For instance - I had no idea there were fairies in this mural - until I took these photos. How cool!!

Do you see the fairies?

The fairies & flowers (Rhododendrons I think...?) are right above a girl/woman that is painted in Memory of another artist. And, I'm pretty sure that artist, Mary Volkert, is the woman who painted one of the bears that is one of my favorites! I wish I could have met her and told her how much I love her bear!

I put my hand in the photo - so you can see how big she is...

Here are more close ups of this mural - going from the left side of it to the right:

And, then there are these photos - which fit in there somewhere, but I can't figure out where since my photos didn't upload in order.  Lots of little details and "hidden" people and scenes...

This mural has it's own Facebook page, too!- Gateway Mural Facebook page - where there are some progress photos.

There are more murals by Bob around here, so stay tuned!

Here are the other Grants Pass Murals posts, in case you missed them:

Are you starting to believe me about there being a TON of murals here in Grants Pass? I am not even half done yet (almost)...! There are seriously a LOT of murals here!! It's amazing! We are truly lucky to have all of this artwork here.  Unfortunately, I think many people here take it for granted. But, perhaps not - perhaps everyone around here is feeling just as lucky & inspired as me! Hope so!
