WORK - PLAY! - MANI FEST & an invitation to come out and play

in art •  8 years ago  (edited)

Two and a half years ago, a very good friend of mine (Bart Wildeman, theatre- maker, moralist and entrepreneur) and I had many philosophical talks over too much coffee.
It was an exchange of visions about life, society, poetry, spirituallity and art in all it"s guises.
In no time  our ' coffee-for-two '  became a coffee party.  More and more like-minded people came to answer the call. @omarb was the first who joined us. (And he also gave me the idea for this post)
But anyway, from one moment to another it became a group happen where everyone participated enthusiastic and contributed in his or her own way.
An experiment became an intense adventure and forged ties for life .

I 've made a quick sketch, where I tried to capture and visualize the first principle declaration... Playfully!

Later, guidelines were enumerated by the whole group, we used as game rules.

MANI FEST
(by PLAY collective)

1) The game is OPEN SOURCE: if you touch me, you will be touched by others.
2) The more you play this game, the more you will get involved.
3) Failure is a gift: get your mind as open as you can.
4) It‘s about as serious as you want to take it, nothing less, nothing more.
5) To really understand what this game is all about you have to play it all the way through.
6) Special moments with special rules: we call it ‘concepts’ in which anything is possible.
7) We ‘ve got ourselves a place where we do it: the world is our playground.
8) Limit yourself!
9) Be the spectator, be the player and most of all, BE THE GAME!
10) Go all the way, then go even further and beyond.
11) It's a rule that you don't have to obey the rules!
12) Each good rule makes it self abundant, the moment the game is played. the rule is becoming inherent/evident, so that it 's not something artificial anymore but something from the inside, something organic: a necessity, in one unity with the game,... and the pleasure you feel with it, is what's all about.
13) Don't hate the player, game the hate!
14) To play' asks full devotion. Therefore, forget who you are or would like to be. Lose yourself -in the moment-.
15) Find out what you're good at and limit it in your work in progress.
16) The only constant is that the rules and the game always change.
17) Kill your darlings: find out what you're good at and limit your use of it in the creative progress.
18) Add you own rules, it makes this game more real and true.

"Work PLAY!" is the play title and the frame of mind in which everything  is possible, but nothing must; where the result is completely  subordinate to the process, because that is what really counts! Even so  the medium, the research field and/of disciplines are of minor  importance than that what you practice or search for with passion. Back  to the child that discovers the world by playing... for life and for death! Being an adult, it's necessary to rediscover the playing and to  play back, for life and for death.
The only necessity is that we  let go of everything we think, know and feel; to find out at the spot  what the possibilities are and start our exploration (together) from  there.

The what and how don't matter. Passion and intensity do! Because playing is a serious matter...

Working  along this preconceived discourse we have nothing to lose, none of us.  The only thing we have to do is ACT, because acting makes visible. And  as we are not searching for any results, failing can be reversed into  succeeding.
....

Anyhow, one of the games we played, within the closed group on facebook, is this...

As simple as it looks!
Someone loads an image, an other one download, edits and re- upload it. And so on ...
If you're actively involved, your always getting stimulated and challenged by the following upload. Because there were always multiple images in the running, so  you'll get encouraged from all sides.
And hey, we were just playing but look what amazing results it gives.

I call this art with a lot of humour.
To make and to experience!

But, could it also work on steemit... I really wanna know. So, I uploaded one of my analoge collages (Picture below), asking myself if I can challenge somebody to start this PLAY?

I uploaded this basic picture a little larger, so you can take a screenshot to edit, if you want. As far as I know we still can't download images from steemit, but fortunately for us we don't have to play on high quality. ;)

Really curious for the reactions!

SO anyone?

Warm regards,

This is a really cool idea! I simply love it! I wish I was a little more confident in my artistic abilities. I'm working toward letting that side bloom in public, like I do with my writing. I'll be following you to see how the experiment goes...and maybe I'll be brave enough to jump in and play too. Right now, I'm definitely sharing it out. :)

You have absolutely nothing to prove @merej99 and it also has no sense to force yourself. It's only a game and it should be fun, right? Also no one that obliged you to share pictures or texts you don't want to share.
But that does not mean that you couldn't try if for yourself.
Just to take the challenge... for yourself.
So far, there are no deaths, so I can assure you ... it's safe. ;)

And if you gradually make an image that you'd like to share with us, jump on and we"ll be here to receive it with open arms (or do I have to say; with open eyes? :) )

You have one of the most creative minds I know Meredith, you should absolutely jump in on this. And there is nothing stopping you using some of your words alongside any imagery.

this is such a fun concept, I'm looking forward to seeing people take part.
