Horn Bone Craft

Horn bone craft in Orissa is known for their richness in creativity and luster. The artisans of Paralakhemundi located in Orissa's Gajapati district, create different artistic items out of horn bone and these are considered to be the conveyors of rich cultural heritage of Orissa. There are many artists and craftsmen who make wonderful items from ethically acquired animal horn and bones. Buffalo horn is commonly used to make articles – mostly combs in bengal. Horn is heated & then flattened & cut and shaped or carved. Some artifacts are made in Kerala,and Andhra Pradesh. Camel bone is largely used in inlay, in making jewellery etc are in Sarai Tarin and Nagina in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
