Artwork of the Day #58 - Red Horse [almost hunted down]steemCreated with Sketch.

in art •  8 years ago

Todays artwork is not visible anymore in reality.

In my attempt to finish it, I completely overpainted it.

So this is the only photography I have from that state:

Acrylic on canvas with some additional scratch-work.

I had the idea of a native trying to hunt down a beautiful animal, but actually can't do it, because it's too beautiful.

Thanks for watching!

2nd comment from me- I've spent a little longer staring at this.

When I was a child my grandma had a painting that hung in her lounge, it had a similar style of colour and mark making to this. I would spend hours staring at that painting. It was of a bird or was it a person that looked like a bird?!? Either way, when I stared into the marks other shapes and characters would appear- unintentional to the painter I am sure. This painting has a similar affect on me, staring through the layers I fall into the shadows and become lost within the shapes.

What a great story, thanks so much for sharing. I very often have this kind of vison, that the world is made of multiple layers of time and energy and you can also switch to another layer by your will. Maybe that is a core idea of my work.

I know exactly what you mean.

Gone but not forgotten, a beautiful painting by @shortcut. Nice layering of colours with this, you have a great palette.

Thanks @opheliafu, I actually never think too much about the colors. Just taking the ones, that I have at hand. Maybe that does the trick :-)

I adore this, it's spectacular, well done! I like that you said this red horse was almost hunted. Now I can imagine it alive and well and galloping along

Maybe I killed the painting to set the horse free. When I really think about it, I wasn't always sure about this particular ending of the story...

In my opinion it was definitely the right ending! The hunter probably found his dinner elsewhere, and the beautiful horse got to live to a ripe old age :-) It really is a great painting, I would happily hang it in my house

Yeah, thank you so much for your appreciation. Next time I'm going to paint an artwork over, I will ask you first, if you'd like to have it :-)

Groovy, I'd love that! But you don't keep all these fantastic paintings you do? You should hang them all in your house and admire them yourself!!!

Actually I'm still sitting on 99% of my artwork, but that somehow contradicts to the idea to make a living being an artist. Also after looking at some of them for about 30 years I more and more have the feeling that they are old enough to live their own live.
