This piece was done on clayboard, which is basically the same as scratchboard but without the black ink coat. Instead I brushed in the black ink myself and then scratched the image afterward. This also allows for going back over the scratched areas with more ink if you want to fix something or crosshatch over your scratches.

I gave the final piece a gloss coat and you can really see the texture of the scratches in this final photo.

A very fun medium!
The colors were done in photoshop after scanning.

I've never worked like this before. I'm fascinated. :-)

How long did the whole thing take?

Its not very large, 6x6 inches. Probably took me a good 3-4 hours or so. If you have ever done scratch-board its very similar but with more control.

That's an amazing amount of detail, looks awesome.

Thanks so much!

wow!! great congratulation !! so loved

Thank you!

Its so cool

Wow, this is so cool! :) Maybe I will try this too.

this incredible, the amount of detail that has to give the volume and texture to the skull is amazing, I love it. I think you really should have a lot more followers than you have because your art is very good, excellent!
