Traveling Through Paintings #16

Come walk with me as we travel through the many paintings 😎

All of a sudden a loud voice made a hopeless attempt to drown out the many other voices. And shortly after I could hear a drum which was getting louder and louder. The people slowly shifted their attention to the source of this sound and began to settle down a bit. A play was about to start...

A soft music emanated from the background and a young woman walked onto the stage. She wore a long white dress and had a ribbon in her blonde hair and began to view the audience with a curious look. But after only a few steps she stopped and raised her right hand which held a sheet of paper. She began to read: "Oh how curious the days have passed. Not long before I was a girl and now I stand here as a married woman, longing for the sweet summer days of my childhood. A maid had I been and I was raised as a sturdy and resilient wife to address the needs of my husband. I was educated to please my husband and give him all the things that he would desire... But now... I stand here hardened by time and disappointment. Oh life! What have you done with me?"

A man, no doubt her husband, came scurrying around the corner and dropped his coat on a chair. He walked to a cupboard and took out a glass and poured himself some alcohol. Only after some moments did he see his wife now lying on the ground still sobbing.

"Rose, what are you doing?", he addressed his wife. "Have I not told you to stop cleaning the floor at such a late hour?". He turned his back on her and grabbed a newspaper and began to read in silence.

Rose occasionally let out a weep, her face and eyes now swollen red, she glanced at her husband in despair. But she apparently knew that she would not get a response, so she laid on her back and cried louder.

After some moments her husband bent his newspaper over so that he could see what was going on in the room and when he saw his wife on the floor he simply said: "You know, Rose, your dress isn't getting any whiter from lying there. You best get yourself ready for the Smithers who invited themselves over for a cup of tea. Do we still have those lovely cupcakes of yours, dear?", he asked. Looking more closely now he saw that something was wrong with Rose. "Dear, are you not feeling well today?".
