We having been receiving practicals and the one up for submission next week is BATIK work. But instead of fabric we are to do it on cardboard with the free hand and the stamp method using a foam.I am going to be doing a real example of the process but I also want you guys to know about it. So you wouldn't be too surprised by what I am going to do.Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to a medium made using this technique originated from Indonesia.Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting.

Then from Indonesia it spread through out the world.Even getting to Africa There are examples of batik in many parts of Africa but the most developed skills are to be found in Nigeria where the Yoruba people make adire cloths. Two methods of resist are used: adire eleso which involves tied and stitched designs and adire eleko .

The tools used in batik are tjanting with a measured bowl and a pointed mouth it is used to apply wax on the piece you are working on.or you can just improvise by cutting out a small foam and using it for application or a painting brush.

Colour or dye for suitable mediums. If it is on a cloth it has to use dye but if the work is to be done on cardboard or anykind of paper I will advise you to use a poster colour a very bright one to bring out the beauty of the work.
A medium which is where you will be doing the Batik on and it could be cloth or paper.
Waxes are a diverse class of organic compounds that are lipophilic, malleable solids near ambient temperatures. They include higher alkanes and lipid. They are not biodegradable so that are actually harmful working with but it is also what helps to create the basic design through creating resistance to the colour before painting and so it is very important in batik.Simply said you can replace it with a candle stick since it is made up of wax and just need to be melted before used in batik.
