Today's addition to the Come and Go Art Flow was intended to be a lesson in bannock making from one inspiration individual in our community, coupled with a presentation by her husband in a speech from the heart.
Turns out they've got other commitments in life, and I wasn't able to get ahold of them to remind them of the commitment they'd made.
This doesn't mean we can't make bannock!
Nobody came today, but I made bannock for my friend. Since she insisted, I mixed the following ingredients for a simple oven bannock. If you follow this recipe, then you can too!! :
While you preheat your oven at 400
Mix 3 cups of flour
Into 2 tablespoons of baking powder
Throw in a dash of salt
Then in a separate bowl put 1/4 cup of oil
1-1/2 cups of water
Drop the wet stuff in the dry ingredients and mix. Minimal mixing is best. Keep the consistency to like you'd want a biscuit.
Dust your baking sheet with flour. Lightly.
Put the bannock dough on the baking sheet.
Flatten it out to between an inch to two inches.
Stick a fork in it a whole bunch of times to help air get into it, and help cook it faster.
Get it in the oven!
Voila! You have bannock in twenty or twenty five minutes.
Adjust your baking time as needed, to produce a nice golden brown top.
Then enjoy!
Some people like butter. Lard. Maybe even some maple syrup, or jelly.
If you want to get real adventurous, you can mix raisins or cranberries into your bannock mix for an extra flavourful experience.
Provecho!
