A low poly forest experiment

in art •  9 years ago  (edited)

This is the result of an attempt to make some low poly style trees in Blender.
I love low poly scenes but I've never really liked the "ball on a stick" kind of trees.
Normally in CG models, the leaves are a semi-transparent texture applied to a flat
surface which creates the illusion of seperate leaves. This sadly doesn't
work well with the low poly style I was trying to create.
Therefore, I decided to create actual 3D leaves. By making the leaves quite large, I
saved on polygons while keeping the sort of dense leaves effect. Which in the end fits
well within the style I think. Sadly, these trees still contain an enormous amount of polygons
which makes them unsuitable for games.
