In Japan and other parts of Eastern Asia, the plum blossoms begin to bloom in late February, often while snow is still on the ground. The bright pink flowers are striking against a cold, winter back drop.
Plum blossoms bloom in small clusters along a branch, allowing each flower to be admired individually.
Traditionally, they symbolize perseverance and are also believed to be protective and a sign of health.
