Yesterday I went to the art store and bought some pastel chalk pencils. I wanted to see if I would be able to draw something in color instead of just using the black charcoal pencils. My teacher has not introduced color pastels in class, but one of my classmates started on his own and his drawing was fabulous. I decided to give it a whirl while we are on a short break in between quarters.
I chose a picture of an emu that I took when I was in Napa, California in May of this year using my Canon 80D.
I thought that a drawing of an animal might be easier than a portrait of a person since I only bought the 24 pack of pencils instead of the larger package. These pencils are so expensive for my budget. I could barely afford the smaller package with a 50% off coupon. Anyway, the drawing came out better than I expected. I learned that I need to familiarize myself with the color wheel in order to blend the colors correctly. Other than that, I was surprised at how easily the pastel blended in my sketchbook. Oh, I also bought a sketchbook so that I can start maintaining a portfolio of my development in a bound book as opposed to the tablet that I use in my art class.
I was so busy drawing that I neglected to take my process photos that way that I should have. Process photos are informative for me and it allows me to get feedback from my teacher when she is available. I'll take more next time.
I hope that you enjoy my drawing of the Emu from my photo of the Emu.
Nicely done. You are really making progress with your art classes as depicted in the final product.
