Art Blog # 4: Tribal w/ Negative Filter

Today I got inspired to draw from the topic I discussed with my students. It was the story of How the world was created a Panay Myth. The two characters were Alunsina and Tunkung Langit because of an ungodly fight the World from a bottomless mist it was formed into what it is Now.

So I imagined the god Tungkung langit and thought of making a drawing of him. Well looking back at Filipinos heritage we have a this tattoo culture and this what inspires me with this drawing. I tried to change the filter of the drawing to add effect. Let's begin..

✏ I started my drawing by sketching using a pencil. I started with the eye at first this was supposed to be a female but then I drew so badly that it look like a man. So a man it is.

✏ After the sketch I used a pilot frixion 05 ballpen, it's because it's the only pen I have. This pen can actually be erased, teachers used them specially when we need to write in pertinent papers. I started with the brows coz kilay is life.

✏ Then, I drew some dot tattoo in the face of this warrior. I have seen in some tribe that they have lots of tattoos even in their face. Having tattoo is a status symbol.

✏ Next, In the center part I drew this some kind of a flower tattoo but still a tribal design. Actually the actual design is even bigger but I don't have enough space so I just drew a smaller version.

✏ After I focused on the arm, the arm is the most common area for a tattoo, the tattoo is also to identify which tribe the wearer belongs. It is also used to scare off enemies. Having the tattoo is a sign of belonging a symbol of membership.

✏ Lastly, I also made some kind of a necklace to show that this warrior is not just a soldier but also a leader. With the numerous tattoes he has shows that he is the bravest of them all. I intentionally drew his brows different from each other coz it shows his imperfection as. person. In the story Tungkung Langit divested his wife's power because of his anger and because of that he lost his beloved Alunsina, and from his loneliness he created the world.

The Final Outcome

Imperfections makes us better, with those imperfections we become unique and beautiful. There are a lot of great artist and I know I'm far beyond them but for me I enjoy what I'm doing, this keeps me out of stress and makes me happy.
