Missing the Mist

in asthma •  8 years ago

Walking home from elementary school in the 5th grade I experienced my first asthma attack. I don’t remember much of the walk but I do remember falling to the ground in my grandma’s apartment crying that I couldn’t breathe. I think I scared her half to death. My mom took me to the doctor and I received a shot of adrenaline after which I passed out. It was under control for the most part but my allergies got worse and since I was running track in high school went from a pill to an inhaler. After college I was knocked off my mom’s insurance so I started using Primatene Mist.

I loved my Primatene Mist! They were cheap, effective, and didn’t need a prescription. There were plenty of drug stores opened 24 hours so I could pick them up there. Hell, some supermarkets carried them too so I could get them anytime anywhere until New Year’s Eve of 2011. Well, most pharmacies cleared out of their inventory months before that so my plan to stockpile was thwarted.
