A change in attitude and tactics

Well, as the New Year settled in place just at the horizon's edge, Saturn ... the Grand Old Man of the Cosmic Crew ... crossed from Sagittarius into his home territory of Capricorn. He will travel there now for a little over two years.

The theme of this pattern is

Strong ambition, hard work and slow but steady progress
to build status, gain wealth and achieve formidable, lasting goals.

What's happening?

For some reason, Saturn seems to wind up as the planet on everybody's blacklist. It could be because he demands a lot of concentration. He insists that you take responsibility for yourself and your future. He won't settle for less than consistently high quality work. And ... he doesn't give much help and absolutely no points for simply a "good effort."

With Saturn in charge of a project, you either succeed according to his high and strict standards ... or you start over and do the job again. People who consistently try to scoot by with as little effort as possible won't fare well with Saturn at the helm now -- comfortable and safe on his own home ground. Life is about to turn real serious.

It's been a long time since Saturn wandered here -- around 27 years to be precise. If you look back at where you were and what you were doing during 1988 - 1991, you'll get an idea of the kinds of things in your future ... similar experiences with more complex challenges and lessons on a higher level.

But it also can mean more lasting rewards and bigger gains at the end. Saturn makes you earn everything you get from him, but once you've mastered the work to his satisfaction, he does play fair with you in the end.

Things to keep in mind about Saturn

Saturn is basically the taskmaster and slave-driver of the Zodiac. I suppose this is why most people consider his energy tiresome and unwelcome. For those who are looking for an easy life ... or a lucky break once in a while, he can be pretty annoying.

He inspires grand ambitions and long-term plans, which are things that take lots of work, careful management and patience to develop. Nothing he's involved with pays off quickly ... but it does pay off eventually. For some of us, that's a fair bargain. For others, not so much.

Saturn insists on solid work -- with no short cuts, no scrimping. Whatever he helps you build in life needs to last -- often for the next 30 years ... so except for minor tweaks and adjustments to fit changing circumstances (things that usually happen at 7 year intervals as it squares and opposes the various planets in your Natal Chart) what he creates from your energy and assets has to stand the test of time.

Saturn builds contributions in your life, resources you can depend on for future security, accomplishments that command the respect of the community and colleagues, worthwhile ventures that improve the lives of others and give value back to the society that supports you.

What you achieve with Saturn's help are things worth doing -- for yourself and others. Yes it takes hard work, but most things that have in substance in life ... do.

Things to keep in mind about Capricorn

Capricorn is the sign Saturn rules -- so there is a very close correlation between Saturn's actions and Capricorn's characteristics. They both share (and use ... and promote) the same kind of energy.

When a planet is in its home territory -- as Saturn is, now that it has returned to travel in Capricorn for a couple of years -- there is little modification in the planet's influence from its "pure" expression. In fact, there is often a doubling-down on the emphasis it brings to life ... and the tactics it uses to achieve its agenda.

Capricorn never concerns itself with trivial matters. Yes, it is extremely detail-conscious, but that level of attention is always directed toward incidentals that are part of a much bigger picture. Little details, well-managed, add up to excellence, and Capricorn keeps its eye on that ball.

So, Capricorn takes on substantial, long-term goals and develops them over time. It takes patience and devotion ... and plenty of self-control. Results come slowly and can be pretty meager for a while -- and that helps add to Saturn / Capricorn's reputation as something unpleasant and hard to deal with.

Things to expect with
Transiting Saturn in Capricorn

With this recent change involving Saturn, moving from expansive, optimistic Sagittarius to sane-and-sober Capricorn, life in the next two years of development will inevitably take on a much more serious mood. Concrete ambitions will rise sharply. You'll settle into rhythms that are slower, more measured and not nearly so confident and ready to take risks.

Saturn in Sagittarius isn't exactly a real fun guy. He's more like the stern father or remote and unapproachable boss who's willing to have a few drinks and smile some at the annual Christmas party.

Saturn in Capricorn though is right back to his all-business demeanor. He's interested in progress. He's interested in the bottom-line. He's interested in keeping expenditures down ... and maximizing the use of available assets. He's willing to invest his talents and wealth with others who can help him achieve his goals, but he'll still reserve a lot of work for himself ... because no one can do things as well as he can -- in his opinion.

This is how you will approach your own long-range projects now -- and any natural tendency you have for life in this mode will be reinforced. Like Virgo, Capricorn can be a workaholic ... and proud of his own diligence. You may have to make yourself ease up and take time off. At the least, you need to keep this temptation to excess in mind. Two years is a long time to keep your nose perpetually to the grindstone.

Thank you for stopping by!

If you've always known there was more to Astrology than Sun Sign material and the three line daily horoscope in the newspaper, climb aboard and follow this blog. You'll find a world of wisdom detailing how you were designed to work with life ... and why you are the way you are -- all in quick-to-read, easy-to-digest-and-remember, written-in-plain-English essays that offer plenty of food for thought.

Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles that talks about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, that will help you get more from this material.

If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff. Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.

One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.

Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.

Questions about any of this? -- Upvote this post and talk to me in comments. It's a terrific way to build value for yourself and the community ... and it will give me ideas of what to write about in future posts. Believe me there is lots to say about the way The Sun, The Moon -- and all the other elements in a horoscope, all the other components of Astrology -- work together to interpret you and your story -- and what it all means to the person you've become.

This is who I am.

About the art in our visual essays ...

Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.

The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.

Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.

So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.

The photos here are part of that collection, with sincere thanks to the artists who saw these moments ... and with their cameras ... preserved them. All of us at Enchanted Spirit are profoundly grateful to them for their generosity and skill ... and for the added grace, depth and dimension their art brings to ours.

I'm diggin' these posts. My sister is a Capricorn, how would it effect them directly?

Long story short, she's about to get real real serious about what she wants to do with her life and the statement she wants to make as a person with the talent and energy she can invest in long-term personal and professional goals. She is going to grow up a lot this year and next ... and this will pay off nicely if she works with the opportunities she meets. Love your DJ graphic. Don't be a stranger! Have a good rest of the week.

Very cool. This will be great to keep in mind as I'm around. Maybe to help how I can without getting in her way. Encourage maybe. Oh, and that thing is just Bitmoji graphic... there are plenty more where that came from, lol!

My Keywords for Saturn & Capricorn
capricornio.jpg

Those sure fit. Love the solid, sturdy hexagonal shape, too. Many nice virtues there ... and some of the reasons people wish Saturn and Capricorn would just leave them totally alone!!

Stop back by sometime. Let's develop a conversation. (You just may have to give me a few days each time to find my way back to my own blog. Time is a desperately short commodity right now. Saturn just crossed my Ascendant ... and Mars is about to conjunct my own Natal Jupiter. My schedule is stuffed full of chores and projects ... but I do get around to reading things. And answering them, too. See?

If you haven't already, leave another comment on something more recent. I'll hit you with another UV as thanks for your patience. Have a good week!

I've been reading your posts with interest and anticipation for when you delve into Pieces 🐟 and I've just completed and reviewed my chart at AstroLabe ~ thank you for the link :) it made for interesting reading to say the least!

You're welcome. Thank you for stopping by. Keep doing that, ok? Just because you're a Pisces doesn't mean you can't learn some useful things about the other signs in your own chart ... and the other people in your life. Not everyone is so saintly. That may come as a surprise!!

I really enjoyed your explanation of Saturn here @enchantedspirit. I really comes at a great time for me as it's my 4 year in numerology, which is very much a work-based and process driven energy. I've also been really putting my head down and working hard to achieve my goals. I definitely can feel that Saturn "give-no-shits-how-hard-it-is" attitude lol.

And interestingly enough, I was born in 1988 so I'm essentially reexperiencing my first year of life!

Thanks so much for sharing @enchantedspirit!

PS: I'd love to hear your thoughts about my recent post: The 7 Liberating Life Truths I Learned While Skateboarding

There are six planets in Capricorn in the sky tonight. Thank goodness life isn't always this demanding!!

This work load will ease up -- and become more manageable and more fun as Aquarius arrives. But yes, presently, everyone is loaded down with Capricorn seriousness and heavy commitments to meet.

Hang around. When life gets quieter -- and the road ahead more open, we'll have more time to exchange notes! I appreciate your diligence. It's been noticed!

What a detailed explanation of Saturn's current mood! Thanks for making it easy to understand. I had a Vedic astrologer once tell me that Saturn is my ruling planet, and nothing she described made me very happy. lol! I'll stick to my happy-go-lucky but sometimes-moody Gemini ways, and work with Saturn by continuing to be honest and vigilant in my work. Upvoted and followed!

Thank you very much. We'll get through this forest of Capricorn planets soon ... and then comes Aquarius. Much more fun. More unpredictable. More creative. A different kind of energy! Watch what I mean. You'll literally feel the load lighten and the difference in the energy. Starting in about 4 days ... and progressing from there. Stay strong!

You are on my list of astrologers now. I love it!! I look forward to this professional push!! :D

As a Virgo you are so in line to take good advantage of this. Stick around. You'll learn some stuff that will make life ... easier, more productive, and far more understandable. What's your birthday? I'll tell you when this professional push will really connect for you.

You are getting me excited!! My birthday is September 8th, 1987. Thanks for this @enchantedspirit, you are moving to my number 1 spot for astrologers! :D

I definitely want to excel, expand, progress my professional life. In my early twenties I did very well and in the past 3 years I had such a shake up with finance and business. This is my life, I love business and want to be very successful to help others as well as to push to my full potential. I have all the ambition in the world! Although with the recent years headaches, I have come into a very enlightening position, connected so much with my spirit and had some major breakthrough with who I am and what I want. I now just really need to get back on the saddle of producing like I use to financially. I could write you a book of what I have been through, what I discovered and how much I want to attain wealth for many different reasons. Well will see what you have to say because I blab forever... Thanks so much!

Here are several things that really stand out in your chart right now.

  • You are in a phase of significant building ... that involves defining and constructing new foundations for yourself, new structures to support the life you want to build over the next 25 - 30 years. You won't be done with this for another year (and a couple of months). Sometimes this means you are actually working to build (or find) a new "home base" for yourself -- especially one that can provide the emotional support and encouragement you need. That may be something that has been real scarce lately. You've been working (for quite a while) to define yourself -- to know yourself more completely ... so that the new direction you want your life to take will be authentic and appropriate for you. A lot of work has gone into this -- and a lot of time, too.

  • You are also working through some significant issues from your childhood -- family matters and memories that involve re-evaluating your self-worth, strengthening your self-confidence -- and purging old, difficult past messages about you and your value, your competence, your quality as a person. Part of building these new structures I just mentioned includes "putting yourself back together," becoming a stronger, more effective person -- and understanding yourself more intimately (and more honestly) than ever before.

  • You've done a lot of soul-searching over the last ... oh, say 3+ years. Knowing yourself, seeing yourself clearly (perhaps for the first time) has been almost an obsession. Now, you're looking to surround yourself with appropriate "family members" -- people who understand and support you and your dreams. Not everyone related to you by blood or marriage is part of this "family circle." These will be people you choose -- rather than those with traditional family connections. You need people who can be there for you in ways you can count on -- and finding them can be quite a long, drawn-out process. But these folks, also, are part of this "restructuring" of your roots and foundations. This phase of your development began in earnest back in November 2016 -- so, as I said, you've been at it for a while -- and are about halfway through it all at this point.

  • From here -- starting in early 2019 you'll start working on the talents and gifts that will fuel the professional life you're after. (Until the self-work -- the inner renovation -- of this coming year is complete, you won't really have a target you can trust to be genuine.) Knowing yourself, who you are and what you want to do with your life is your ongoing task for the next year. Much of the work you're doing to help other people in the videos you produce is really an extension of your own growth and development. (Nobody knows the subject better than the teacher. In fact, I've often told people -- including myself -- "If you want to learn a subject thoroughly, prepare to teach it to others.") What you're doing there is contributing to your inner work and personal growth -- and these different topics are things you need to solidly own for yourself in order to move on. Approach them, work with them, with that perspective in mind.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. Life doesn't always cooperate with my schedule (or yours!!) I'd like to say I'll try to do better, but I can't honestly make that promise right now. Thank you for your patience. I hope this information (and the timing) helps you understand what's going on with you more completely.

Do hang around. There's lots more to learn! @bitdollar

Wow so on point! You didn't have to do this at all so no need to apologize! I appreciate it and makes a lot of sense to me, I have been working on myself for many years now and the videos or blogs I do are usually more so for myself. You are right about that one!

Thank you so much @enchantedspirit... It does feel as if this year will be defining myself more and putting everything together with much more getting off the ground starting next year.

Have a great day and thank you!!! :D
