Walk With Us to an Abandoned Country House

in aswcontest •  7 years ago  (edited)

We've noticed this old abandoned house on past walks, but we've never gone up to it to investigate. Inspired by @customnature's Abandoned Shit Weekly Contest #aswcontest and @lyndsaybowes' ever-encouraging #walkwithme posts, we decided to combine the two and get outside to explore our neck of the woods...

^^^ Our entry for @customnature's Abandoned Shit Weekly Contest - №. 2 -Homes!

So take a Walk with us as we venture off the homestead on foot, into creekbeds and pastures to see what this old abandoned homestead has in store...

We take the back way, going through the creekbeds.

The waters are up after some nice rains and snow melt.

We make it to the old abandoned homestead and who do we see? Our dogs (who were off running around in nearby fields)!!

It has so many old, natural, local elements. All of the stonework foundation was hand done with local stones (something we see often in old homes around here). The coolest part though was when we looked inside and saw vestiges of old newspaper wallpaper.

The old house has so many interesting facets and the light was playing just right.

I especially loved this local river stone added into the stonework...

I love the look of old weathered wood. You can see that this wood is still very strong - not your average wood you can buy today at the lumber store, this is likely locally milled old growth oak. This house has withstood the test of time and the beatings of weather very well.

We take another way home, over the fields toward our very-much-alive homestead...

We love our vistas of the rolling Ozark hills.

At the barbed wire fencing, we spot the hair of our pyrenees, a sign this is one of his escape routes.

We dip under the fence and are back in our forest once again.

I bet you could find some old silver coins around that place with a metal detector. I wouldn't be surprised if some of that lumber turned out to be chestnut. I'd love to see more old house stuff.

Hmm, good idea on coin seeking. Old homes have an air and character that's lacking in most modern homes.

Wow! I am not even going to enter the contest this week you are going to run away with first prize. Haha. Actually I still will if I come across an abandoned home.
On a different note, I am fascinated by Ozark living. Never been there but it just sounds amazing.

Great post, these types of locations always capture my curiosity.
Perfect hideout for ninjas... thanks for sharing!
(SMOKE BOMB!)

Yes, ninjas and skinks love these places I hear.

Skinks like the lizard? That's awesome!
I cant wait until the snow is gone, we only have a few native species. I intend on seeking, learning and sharing all of the local creatures in my habitat.

Gosh that old wood is amazing. You could probably build a whole other house out of the amount of sturdy materials used in that time. Very cool, thanks for posting!

Epic tour, I love that decrepit house!! Great captures, this one is definitely my favourite, nice job, looks so fun!

Thanks, Happy we get to share our fun morning.

I love exploring abandoned places! And happy dog faces. Looks like fun times, thanks for taking us with you. Woot!!

YA, it's fun to be sonewhere places where ppl used to be but aren't around anymore.

What a fun walk! I really enjoyed all the photos, especially the unique features of the house. Do you know who it belongs to? (I wonder if they’d let you reclaim some of that wood!)

Ya, it's a pretty stout house still. I may inquire as I saw some reAlly quality looking hardwood flooring that I could see us using.

I love it all! Weren't you afraid the floors would break and you'd get hurt?? That's what keeps me out of old houses like that. Great photos! I envy your adventure!

Thanks! Oh we didn't go inside haha! It was super unstable. <3

Looks like a cracking spot! Can I move in :) 💯🐒

hehe sure, ya gotta fight the mice!! :)

I'll get a cat! 💯🐒
