Welcoming 2017 in Continous Professional Development stamina

As the festive season draws near, l thought it would be of great significance reflecting on one of my intended goals for 2016 vis-à-vis my accomplishments and lessons learnt. In this will give reference to an Individual development planning approach of understanding yesterday’s endeavors for purposes of defining a better tomorrow.

My objective of 2016 (among others) was career expansion and development through acquiring relevant professional skills despite economic, social or political instabilities. I was fortunate enough to enroll in a 6 months Post Graduate Program in Project Management.

First off, l was greatly intrigued by Continuous professional and individual development planning which is a state of understanding the value of lifelong learning. The program’s first module assists one in understanding the significance of continuously building on relevant professional knowledge and personal skills to succeed in the competitive business environment. In the process l also learnt that that the power for professional knowledge and skill lies within “ME”.

Secondly l was able to differentiate between complacency and learning from experience (conscious learning); little did l know that waiting on experiences that avail themselves to us is complacency and yet seeking for opportunities and creating them where there are none evident is more distinct and empowering.

Evidently 2016 has redefined my goals and objectives for 2017 where we create opportunities that are sought after. Over and above setting Academic, Business, Spiritual, Marital, Health and financial goals etc it is equally important for one to be self driven and determined.
