Auction Finds - Africana BONANZA!!!

in auction •  7 years ago

I simply adore some of these items, especially those that are delightfully kitsch. They are all recent listings on the online auction site I use in South Africa.

These paint over foil backed pictures were popular in the 1950's, I think. Many times the paint is scratched, but this one is in pretty good condition. The inscription translates to "may the link never break".

These little pocket knives are popular collectibles in South Africa. Unfortunately one blade has snapped off, which affects its value. They usually sell for around R400 ($32), but I have it listed for R250 ($20). President Paul Kruger (1883-1900) and famous Boer, General De Wet, of the same period, are depicted.

This tin does not look like an Africana collectible at all, until you turn it around and notice the political sticker on the bottom. It was probably given as a campaign gift.

African animal sound lps with slides included.

Assorted vintage cultural group ties.

Fun SA currency money boxes.

This is another item I love, and it sold fast too. It is a decorative light depicting a Voortrekker scene, complete with sunrise/sunset.

The pocket knife is very interesting, made in Solingen Germany but with south African history. The decorative light is also a good buy.

The blades were imported in bulk from Germany I think, because most collectible pocket knives I sell have Solingen blades.

I love the paint over foil backed picture!! Really unique looking

It is lovely! They were made in a wide variety of designs, and at the time they were popular, many people looked down on them as tacky. 50 years later, and they are collectible.

It’s crazy how trends change hey!

Those products are designed with professional work.
I just want to share the way of painting. I found it with unique style, Be honest i never saw painting like this it's awesome really.

Nice items!

Thank @code-nineteen and welcome to Steemit!!!

The kitten on the tin is making me smile. SA currency is beautiful! It is interesting seeing what people want to buy, presumably to add to their collections. Thanks for sharing.

It's a pleasure. People collect anything and everything! Thanks @wendles
