For the first free book, I made a huge mistake.
I ordered what I thought was a book on spycraft and deceit, and massive battles of the American revolution that centered around Benedict Arnold, his family and his treachery. You know... Near escapes and invisible ink, powdered wigs and powdered rifles, patriotic fervour in the promotion of the ideals of liberty, dangerous men in dangerous times, all that.
What I got was some kinda Jane Austin shit. You know... Girl from a lower class overwhelmed by her introduction to the glitz and glamour and intrigue of high society. Lords and ladies and courts on high. The adolescent version of romance that speaks to dreamy teenage girls that see the world through that unrealistic lens of bullshit, it's target market escaping hormonal awkwardness in a book. I was so disappointed in my mistake and not getting what I thought I ordered.
That said, this stable boy might be more fit for a match based on relative station, and seems like a good lad, but I think the secretary of the major general is a much better fit for the lowly maid all the same. I do hope he calls on her, and that she doesn't entirely rebuff his subtle advances just for the sake of decorum and propriety. Having been a simple farm hand and committed to serving a powerful family as competent help isn't the entirety of who she is and what she feels inside.
