36 Hours in Melbourne!
A spontaneous weekend a couple of months ago, my husband and I, along with a few great friends flew down to Melbourne for a quick foodie adventure! We were only in the city for just under 36 hours but spent our precious hours eating our way through Melbourne.
This is my first time editing and uploading a video so forgive the shakiness, vertical videos and the abundance of photos. There's a lot of room for improvement but I made do with the photos/videos that I did take on my phone.
Anyway, more about our food crawl in Melbourne! I'm from Brisbane so the allure of Melbourne's food scene finally won over us - the perfect excuse for a great weekend away. The only thing that killed me was having to wait SOOO long for each place. Granted, the wait was worth it, the food was great, but I'm talking 30 minutes - 1 hour waits for the popular places.
Day 1
Hardware Societe! Wait time: 40 minutes
The food was delicious (I got the special of the day with a little bit of everything - Pork belly, sausage, duck over a delicious medley of tomato/beans/veg). The service was great. The setup was really interesting as we were seated at a long, long kitchen bench that was right next to their open kitchen. So the chefs were literally cooking our meals right next to us.
Ippudo Ramen! Wait time: Surprisingly, no wait! I've heard usually their is quite a line-up though
We were so full from our previous meal that we had to walk it all off by exploring Melbourne and by walking to find Ippudo Ramen. We arrived mid-afternoon, which worked out really well as we didn't have to wait to be seated at all. The ramen looked delicious, but honestly, I was slightly underwhelmed. A few friends raved about Ippudo so I had high expectations. Would I eat at Ippudo again? Yes, but I wouldn't be waiting in line for it. Or perhaps we got an average batch of ramen. EIther way, still glad to have tried it and ticked it off the foodie bucket list on our first day.
We spent the rest of the afternoon exploring Melbourne and found ourselves walking along the river back to our hotel, Pan Pacific. It's located right next to the DFO, which was really convenient, as I ran into NIKE to buy a pair of sneakers (my feet were absolutely killing me after walking all day).
WAGYU ONE!
For dinner, we indulged in an all-you-can eat wagyu buffett. I really enjoyed dinner, the food was great, so many options for meat and sides available to order. There was also ice cream included for dessert so I was very happy to finish off my meal with unlimited green tea ice cream.
We made a post-dinner trip to Crown Casino before turning in for the night around 1AM.
DAY 2
A good morning starts with a delicious full breakfast. We had our fix at DOCK37 in our hotel, before checking out and heading to the Queen Victoria Markets. We had our morning coffee fix and waited patiently for a delicious steaming bowl of mussels from "The Mussel Pot". The wait was worth it but I wish we had more bread to soak up all that tomato and wine juicy goodness.
CHIN CHIN! Wait: 45 minutes
We walked some more of Melbourne as we slowly made our way to Chin Chin for a late lunch. We were welcomed with a wait time of 45 minutes, with the promise of delicious food for being patient. So we made our way to Hosier Lane to see all the amazing street art on offer for today. One of my favourites was the painting from "Up" that I've used as the cover image for the video. We had time for some drinks at the bar before being seated at our table. The food arrived shortly after we ordered and was really, really delicious. Well worth the wait in my opinion.
UNCLE TETSU, SHOPPING & MAMAK
Our last few hours were spent doing some quick shopping, buying yummy cheesecakes from Uncle Tetsu to take back to Brisbane, then making a quick pitstop at Mamak for some Roti. I was still really, really full from our Chin Chin afternoon feast, so I just had the dessert tissue roti (really thin and crispy with a slight sugar coating).
Sadly, our short foodie adventure in Melbourne came to a close as we made our way back to the hotel to collect our bags, before heading to the airport for hometown Brisbane.
Melboure, thanks for having us. Your weather is unpredictable but your food is delicious. I will be back to eat more again, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Hope you enjoyed the video of our trip to Melbourne!
Have you been to Melbourne? Or perhaps you live in Melbourne? Happy to have all your great foodie recommendations for my next foodie trip to Melb!
As always, thanks for stopping by!
