"Authentic" - It's more than you think...

The etymology of "authentic" begins with the Greeks where it meant "genuine".

Then the Latins used that context to mean "the original author" from which the word "authentic" now gets its worldwide meaning.

So, by being authentic, you are the real writer of your own life story.

But here's the rub.

Many people automatically believe "authentic" means "truth, honest, good or open"

This IS NOT true.

You can have "authentic" knock-offs. You can have "authentic" double-agents and evil geniuses.

And so on…

After 58+ years of consciousness in this reality, I have seen extreme examples of both good and bad authenticity - both in people and in products.

And rather than base my thoughts and actions on levels of "authenticity", I simply ask myself, "What is it that I want to achieve? And will this person or product help me do it without breaking the project's budget?"

Are your decisions based on perceptions of "authenticity" or levels of utility?

Submitted for you to ponder in some quiet moments.

About the Author:

Believing that school was too boring, he dropped out of High School early; only to earn an AA, BS and MBA in less than 4 years much later in life – while working full-time as a Navy/Marine Corps Medic.

In spite of a fear of heights and deep water, he performed high altitude, free-fall parachute jumps and hazardous diving ops in deep, open ocean water.

After 24 years of active duty, he retired in Asia.

Since then, he's been a full-time, single papa and actively pursuing his varied passions (Writing, Disruptive Technology, Computer Science and Cryptocurrency - plus more hobbies too boring or bizarre for most folk).

He lives on an island paradise with his girlfriend, teenage daughter and two dogs.
