"Have a nice day" is a friendly way to end a conversation, but to my dad, it was a command -- and that man is a contrarian. Tell him to have a nice day, and he'll likely tell you where to go.
The older I get, the more like him I become.
When writers send me some manuscript (or gift a book I never asked for), and end with "Enjoy," that manuscript drops to the bottom of my queue (which is longer than a train stretching from Kalamazoo to Timbuctoo).
"I know you're busy, but if you could find time to read my first 30 pages, I'd be eternally grateful," not ENJOY -- "and I promise to sing your praises all over social media" - well, let's not overdo it.
Then again .. feel free to sing my praises. :)
Dang! Why didn't I think to use a username like @zorn?
