At Cumberland Academy, children work diligently in their classes, learning and developing under the direction of our outstanding teachers. Many of our students are adjusting to life on their own because this is often their first time living away from home. We are making a lot of effort to assist pupils who are learning how to deal with autism for the first time.
We believe that every student has the potential to succeed, and we are doing everything we can to help them reach their full potential!
Cumberland Academy is a school like no other. Our students come from all over the world and have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Cumberland Academy is a place where these students can feel safe, loved, and challenged all at the same time.
A normal day for students at Cumberland Academy begins with a circle time activity. This is an opportunity for students to share anything they would like to do about their day. It is also a time for announcements and morning songs. After circle time, students will head straight to their class to start with their academic subjects.
At Cumberland Academy, a wide range of academic courses are provided, including Mathematic, Physics, English, Social Studies, and others. Students are free to work at their own speed and skill level in any topic. The academy's teachers have undergone specific training in assisting and dealing with children with ASD. Following academic classes, students have a selection of activities to choose from. These activities include everything from exercise and music to painting and more. Students get to choose the activities they want to participate in each day.
