The last summer weekend is here and Long Island has seen many beach weekends as the weather this summer cooperated most of the time. It will certainly cooperate this weekend with dry air and lots of sunshine forecast for Saturday and Sunday. Skies are mainly clear up and down the eastern seaboard as high pressure begins to move slowly offshore and settle to our south. This will put us in a west to southwest flow into Monday. There are no weather issues until late Monday afternoon when a cold front moves on through so the radars are on hiatus until then.
SATELLITE
The last two nights on Long Island have been especially cool with many areas in Suffolk county bottoming in the 40s. Tonight will be clear but it won't be quite as cool though most lows will be in the comfortable 50s. Saturday will be warm. The humidity will still be low. We will have lots of sunshine. Highs will reach 80 to 85 away from the shore and 70s to near 80 at the beaches.
Surf conditions will improve later in the day Saturday and especially on Sunday as it returns to normal. Swim safely this weekend and enjoy the nice weather and watch for red flag warnings on the beaches. Be sure it is manned by a life guard.
Monday Autumn arrives but it will still be warm and humid with the chance for showers when that cold front arrives Monday evening. Dry air follows of Tuesday and Wednesday with seasonal temperatures. Hurricane Jerry may make a run for Bermuda but it will not threaten the US East Coast.
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
