There are people who enjoy watching birds. There are people who enjoy watching people. Then there are people who go out into the desert to watch aircraft. They have a dream of seeing a top secret aircraft. The most secret of the most secret are the Black Projects. These are projects the government hides even in the budget from anyone being able to tell what is being worked on. There are more than a few lurking at Area 51 and even at Edwards Air Force Base.
One particular set of watchers went out to watch at Edwards and saw many interesting aircraft, but one seen at night in particular might have been a scoop. Vaguely like the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, it was being worked on outside. They had a telescope and watched from ten miles away (16 km). That is entirely legal. However, it is annoying for the government all the same. They felt they found something interesting.
The possibilities for what it was are a B-2 bomber, an RQ-180 or a prototype for the B-21. There are disagreements over what they saw, but it is interesting all the same.
