25 September 1978, Pacific Southwest Airlines Boeing 727 collided with a private Cessna 172 during its approach to San Diego Airport before plummeting into a residential area of that city.

It was the deadliest crash in US history at the time in terms of fatalities. All 137 people on both planes and 7 on the ground were killed.
