Two of the most famous startups in enterprise blockchain are grouping to tackle the hard, but now apparently inescapable difficulty of interoperability.
This week, at Consensus 2018, Axoni and Clearmatics demonstrated how a financial derivative can be given through a smart contract, activate a payment and then bring about a cross-chain atomic convey of value between two separate networks. This marked the initial time a derivatives contract has been invented on one venture blockchain and established on another.
The landmark is important because interoperability is currently emerging as a key design objective of distributed ledger technology (DLT).
