A story told in the Second Book of Chronicles shows the importance of prophetic activity in the Bible, and this story took place during the reign of Asa, ruler of the Kingdom of Judah, a great-grandson of Solomon. King Asa followed the path of righteousness like his ancestor David, and defended the law of the Lord; and while the Kingdom of Israel declined and headed towards anarchy and social chaos due to the practice of idolatry, especially the worship of the Golden Calves in Dan and Bethel, Judah remained faithful to the Davidic dynasty.
And the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion) of King Asa was tested on numerous occasions, and the first time was when his kingdom was invaded by the Cushites, Asa called upon the Lord and thus obtained a great victory says the Second Book of Chronicles.
And with the victory arose a prophet filled with the spirit of God, the prophet Azariah, the actions and teachings of this prophet in the Bible are a reminder of a valuable spiritual lesson: "Without guidance from God law and order disappear, but God blesses everyone who obeys his Law" Proverb 29:18. The prophet Azariah expressed in those difficult times, when idolatry and foreign enemies also threatened the Kingdom of Judah, the judgment of God to strengthen the King and the people in the task to be developed. Because it is the task of the prophet to correct the people and kings when they go astray and to encourage them when they are on the right path.
And so the prophet reminded the people and the King of a spiritual principle of reciprocity of constant validity in the Bible: "The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you" 2 Chronicles 15:2.
And then the Bible describes those difficult times that Asa had to face: "During those dark times, it was not safe to travel. Problems troubled the people of every land. Nation fought against nation, and city against city, for God was troubling them with every kind of problem" 2 Chronicles 15:5-6.
The lifes and deeds of Asa and Azariah are a reminder of the need for righteousness and the fear of God because the triumph or defeat of a nation depends on the example of their leaders.
