Rhian Ameerah's Aqiqah

in baby •  7 years ago  (edited)

Last week had been a busy one for me. There were way too many things for me to take care of. Rhian Ameerah turned two months old on Thursday the 28th of September. Even though it was a bit late but we had to do her Aqiqah. Aqiqah is the act of sacrificing a goat and shaving the head of the baby. It is an Islamic act similar to a christening but quite different in its own rights.

I grew up in an environment where I got the chance to learn both about Islam and Christianity. But never was I forced to follow a single religion. I have been to a mosque and I have been to churches and I guess that is something which played an important part in defining who I am when I think about God. To me, God is a being who has many different names given to him by the different faiths.

We bought the goat from a seller who lives in the lowlands and he was kind enough to transport it all the way to where I live. Of course, I did pay the transportation fees and he stayed overnight at our place because we had to butcher the goat on Friday. He was a great help since I have never done this kind of thing on my own and hiring someone from Baguio would have made things even harder.

There was one thing though that I didn't get to do on her Aqiqah though and that was shaving her head so that we can weigh her hair. The total weight of the hair is then matched with the price of silver and the money is distributed to the poor. The weather is too cold for her right now and when it gets warmer I guess...I will do it then. Also, the event itself was quite an expensive one not that I am complaining. I would do anything for her and hence the reason why I had been working so hard last week and the past few days to earn extra cash.

We had a lot of food prepared and invited a lot of people with whom we shared the goat meat. They all saw the baby and everyone had a wonderful day. She isn't used to crowds so she was a bit scared at first and didn't let anyone carry her except mommy. She didn't even want me her dad to carry her huhuhu. The baby was so mean to daddy on that day, I feel heartbroken. :P Just kidding.

I wanted to take a lot of pictures of the event but we were all tired. My wife had spent the whole night in the kitchen getting everything prepared for the day and only took a break when she had to feed the baby while I took care of the baby. Both of us only had an hour of rest Friday morning before we got busy again and were really very tired taking care of the guests. We did manage to snap a few pictures of Rhian Ameerah before all the guests arrived.

Regardless of how much we spent or how tiring that day was, in my opinion it was worth it because baby got to have a lot of people visit her and her Aqiqah was done. Her smiles made up for everything after all everything we are doing is for her. :)

She is growing up quite fast. :) I would like to thank all the people that visited baby last Friday for her Aqiqah and you guys for reading this post. Enjoy the baby pics. :)

"America's Sweetheart"

I have to say, that one caught me off guard. I remember the day you came and announced her birth. My friend, your baby girl is the WORLD's sweetheart!

<3

That's just clothing bro. She definitely is the world's sweetheart! Thank you for that mate. <3 :)

Thank you for sharing your joy and the story of the "christening" which is culturally educational for me as well. I used to own goats. I'm glad you had the services of a professional, they are not easy to manage.

Yeah thank god I did. I don't think I would have been able to do that myself.

Yeah, me either!

Sweet baby girl! That sounds like an interesting event. I haven't actually heard of it before. So how much silver would that typically be as hair doesn't weigh very much. Thanks for sharing! #theunmentionables

Thank you very much. I am not quite sure at the moment since I haven't shaved her head yet...we will see once the weather warms and her head is shaved. I will keep you posted. #theunmentionables

welcome to the world, beautiful baby...

Thank you @mirzacho :)
