Miserable Weather Wednesday Chance For A Break Thursday

Much of Long Island sat in low clouds drizzle and fog all day. Late this afternoon some breaks on the cloud cover occurred in parts of Northern Nassau and a small portion of NW Suffolk but that was about it as far as the sun went today. To the south and west sunshine had better luck breaking through. As a result we sat in the raw 50s all day. Now we are seeing the onshore flow actually strengthening tonight and Wednesday so even where clouds broke apart they will be coming right back overnight. Temperatures by morning will be in the mid to upper 40s.

Radar isn't showing much right now. Thre are some showers and thunderstorms in Western Pennsylvania moving east but the moment they hit the marine layer that lies from Eastern Pennsylvania eastward they are just going to fall apart. Wednesday will be a cloudy dreary day with highs in the low to mid 50s. Patchy drizzle fog and even some spotty rain will be dotting the landscape though any rain should not amount to much. It is just another gray spring day.

Thursday and Friday there may be some hope that the warm front to the south gets by. However don't be shocked if like today it gets stuck somewhere near NYC and we sit in low clouds again all day long with winds off the water. We will compromise on the idea at this point and hope for some breaks of sunshine at least for Nassau and Western Suffolk with highs reaching into the 60s. A late shower or thunderstorm is not out of the question. Friday might provide another opportunity before a cold front moves through late in the day with a few showers or a thunderstorm and then it is on the the weekend.

The weekend does not bode well for us. The front stalls and a couple of waves of low pressure will move along it. We will gradually get into a northeast wind and a soaking rain will likely develop later Saturday and last through most of Sunday. At least that is how it looks at the moment.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
