RnR in Bali!

So great to be back here! Spent the first couple of days chilling in the old neighbourhoods and re-aquainting myself with the traffic and tiny streets that you need to navigate to get anywhere. Still have not been for a surf yet as our boards are not ready from the ding repair shop but we will collect them today. Our hotel is right on double six beach and there are lots of cool little spots for a drink and a meal looking out over the beach. Here is a classic example of what it means to be on holiday in Bali....

2$ beers and beautiful view. This is the great thing about here. It's very inexpensive and huge choice of places. Yesterday i cruised over to Bukit peninsular to check out the famous waves of Padang Padang and Uluwatu. These are the most famous waves in Indonesia and were discovered back in the 70s by pioneering surf travellers. In Uluwatu there is a famous bar called Single Fin and it has a beautiful montage of photographs of what Bukit was like all those years ago....

There is so much surfing history here that it's very humbling to be able to visit and surf these same waves decades later. The bar Single Fin is an iconic spot in Bali and has hosted some of the world's greatest surfers over the years. I sat and had a Bintang and watched perfect waves roll over the reef below.

Then I cruised over to Padang Padang - "the wave so nice they named it twice". I have never surfed it as it's kinda considered a pro level wave. very localised and I think it would be hard to get a look in between the local hot shots there. There is a small bridge that passes over a steep gorge just in front of the wave. this is where everyone stops to check out the swell. It's hard to get a good photo though because the electric lines spoil the view but here you go anyway....

Today my surfing wingman has a bad dose of Bali Belly - basically the shits. I grabbed him some meds and some food and am staying closeby in case he needs to go Dr later. It's all part of the trip and I'm sure he will be fine by tomorrow. Later today i will go and pick up the boards and may even have a sunset surf.

I'm Jobiker and I'm loving Bali! Peace!
