A walkabout in Bangkok, Thailand
Another walkabout drawing I composed in Bangkok. I loved adding snippets in pencil to my sketchbook of the amazing detailing and patterning I saw everywhere here, including the awe-inspiring great golden buddhas and official temples. Scents of spicy shrimp soups, clove cigarettes. In spite of the flooding from recent rains, I sat at a little floating coffee house to make sketches of Wat Arun and other temples across the Chao Phraya River as well. It was a challenge to keep the sketchbook and moleskin watercolor books dry.
Once back home in Seattle I worked up my collection of quick pencil impressions into the black and white ink drawing. I was hoping to capture the mood and energy of this wild, complex and mysterious place, where everything seems to be happening at once. Later I redrew it all as the colored vector image that you see above.
