Protests and Demands
In response to the violence and misinformation, thousands of Bangladeshi Hindus have taken to the streets, blocking major intersections and demanding:
- Immediate action to safeguard their rights and security
- Formation of a ministry for minority communities
- Establishment of a minority protection commission
- Strict laws to prevent attacks against minorities
- Allocation of 10% parliamentary seats for minorities
International Concern
The international community, including the United Nations, has condemned the violence and called for an end to incitement and hate speech. The US and Indian governments have also expressed concern and urged the Bangladeshi authorities to protect minority communities.
Interim Government Response
Bangladesh's interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, has condemned the attacks as "heinous" and assured the minority communities of his government's commitment to their safety and security. He has also urged the youth to protect all Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist families from harm during this period of unrest.
