France and its gastronomy are known internationally. But do you know that some French foods are banned in other countries? Whether for health or cultural reasons, DocteurBonneBouffe presents you 10 French foods forbidden abroad:

10 FOODS LOVED BY FRENCH PEOPLE FORBIDDEN ABROAD

1. LE FOIE GRAS
Did you know that a dozen countries in the world would prohibit the importation of foie gras? And yes, our pride in the southwest is not welcome in Germany, Austria, Italy, Italy, the United Kingdom and California, where the force-feeding and suffering imposed on animals for the production of foie gras would be against the law.

2. LE ROQUEFORT
Roquefort, the famous French cheese made from blue-veined sheep's milk, is not welcome on American soil. According to the US authorities, it is "composed of a disgusting, putrid or decomposed substance" which explains the 300% import duty rate. According to L' Expression, this new customs policy would only be a retaliatory decision to continue the ban on marketing their beef with hormones in Europe.

3. LA MIMOLETTE
Did you know that French mimolette is banned in the United States? It can no longer be imported into the United States, where health authorities consider it a "disgusting" cheese.
To explain their refusal to allow the now famous orange cheese ball, more or less aged, on American soil, the FDA inspectors explain:"This cheese seems to be, in whole or in part, composed of a disgusting, putrid substance, or decomposed, or otherwise unsuitable as food".
4. LES SAMOUSSAS
In a region controlled by Somali fundamentalist Islamists, samusas and their triangular shape are considered an emblem of the Holy Christian Trinity and are therefore prohibited...

  1. RAW MILK AND ITS DERIVATIVES
Because of the bacteria it contains, the importation and sale of raw milk is highly regulated and even prohibited in Scotland, Australia, Canada (outside Quebec) and, unexpectedly, in the United States!

6. L’ABSINTHE
After a century of prohibition absinthe has only been banned in France for a few years now. However, it is still not well seen in Belgium, Brazil, the Netherlands, Switzerland, North America and Italy.

Containing an "epileptic" molecule, thujone, this alcohol prized by artists (Manet, Van Gogh, etc.) has always dragged the reputation of driving mad.

7. LE HAGGIS
Traditional Scottish dish, the stuffed sheep's belly is a must in the country of kilts. So yes, it's a priori a little ragoutant, but don't be afraid, it's very good! This opinion is in any case not shared by the Americans who have banned its consumption since 1971.

8. L’AKI
You may not know this fruit, but it is highly prized in Africa and Jamaica. Nevertheless toxins are present in its seeds and can generate hypoglycemia and vomiting. As the risk of food poisoning is not minimal, the United States preferred to ban it.

9. THE SURPRISE KINDER
Did you know that Kinder Surprise is forbidden in the United States? And yes! Children's favourite delicacy was banned from the U. S. market after Washington expressed fears that young children would choke when they swallowed the little toys inside the chocolates. In 2009, US customs officials confiscated more than 25,000 of these chocolate eggs during some 2,000 seizures. A culmination in the land of Happy Meal...

10. LE CHEVAL

France, which was revived thanks to the Findus beef lasagne, remembered that not so long ago horse butcheries were not marginalized. This meat is nevertheless forbidden or not recommended in some American or Arab states and the hippophagy is taboo in England where the horse is a leisure animal (strong equestrian culture), not considered a food.
