Conversion is the passage from the slavery of the law to the freedom of the grace through repentance of sins, Jesus Christ calls us to an ethical and spiritual change: "After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. ´The time has come,´ he said. ´The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!´", Mark 1:14-15.
This call is addressed first to the people of the old covenant, the followers of the law of Moses, but this message after Pentecost is addressed to all mankind who fear the Lord: "Peter replied, ´Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.´
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ´Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.´ Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.", Acts 2:38-40.
Moses' law is a heavy burden that in itself is impossible to fulfill, at some point common sense becomes contrary to the commandments:
"Then he asked them, ´If one of you has a child or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?´", Luke 14:5.
Life in God's grace, on the other hand, requires the fulfillment of a simple rule, the spiritual gift of righteousness: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, Matthew 7:12.
Jesus invites us to live in a more free and simple way: "For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.", Matthew 11:30. The Kingdom of God implies a choice of life: we sin or we live righteously.
