I know professional sports isn't well thought of in the world of the blogosphere I inhabit. Is it rigged? Perhaps. Is there gematria attached to various scores and player numbers and names? Maybe? Is it a ritual to Venus? I have no idea! I really don't care, I love baseball.
This season sees my beloved Milwaukee Brewers colliding with some of the better teams in MLB with a very potent lineup. The pitching is still a bit scary, as is Chase Anderson being the #1 starter and face planting at home plate. And of course we still have good ol' Ed Sedar at third base windmilling runners home when everyone is asking themselves "what in the hell is he doing?" Still, the Brewers are back and I'm excited.
For those interested, I put together last year's Run Probability Matrix for the Brewers to help keep score at home. The idea is that, based on the baserunner scenario and number of outs, the Brewers will on average score "x" amount of runs for the balance of the inning. The matrix looks as such :
The idea is that the Brewers, last season, with a runner on 3rd base with no outs averaged 1.25 runs scored for the rest of that inning, How did they do with the bases loaded with no outs? Terrible! They averaged .6667 runs scored in that scenario.
I plan to start a new matrix this season, as well post the occasional sabremetric item. Let's go Brewcrew!
