Bruise Remedy Using Essential Oils

My husband calls himself "Ninja Nate," and rightly so. He can silently walk around on the same creaky, wooden floor and staircase that I make sound like an old, haunted house. The worst part is I've lived here for 17 years and know where all the creaky spots are, and he's only been here for 4.

Well, last Saturday, even my ninja-like husband was defeated by none other than Batman himself. Our two toddler boys had been playing with their cars before bed, and since it was late, I decided not to pick up the mess until after they were asleep. Well, ends up the Batmobile was hidden under a blanket on the floor, and Nathan in all his ninja-glory fell (somewhat) graciously down to the ground.

The next day his foot was bruised and sore from the accident. So, I, being a lover of both my husband and essential oils, whipped up a concoction in hopes to quicken the healing process.

All of the information below is directly out of my essential oils desk reference book. I am not the author or creator of the recipe. I am not a doctor or an aromatherapist. I am a wife, a mother, and a believer of the power of nature.

Thank you for sharing a moment of your time. I hope someone out there will benefit from this post.

Much love! Bria.

⦁ 5 drops helichrysum
⦁ 4 drops lavender
⦁ 3 drops cypress
⦁ 3 drops lemongrass
⦁ 3 drops geranium

Apply 1-3 drops 2-5 times daily, topically to bruised area, neat (without diluting) or dilute 50-50 if using on sensitive skin. Use a cold compress (ice) on location 2-4 times daily, or as needed.

Helichrysum
Aromatically, helichrysum is uplifting to the subconscious. It is used for Herpes virus, arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis, hypertension, blood clots, liver disorders, circulatory disorders, skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis scar tissue, and varicose veins).

Lavender
It's fragrance is calming, relaxing, and balancing, both physically and emotionally. Studies show lavender dramatically improves mental accuracy and concentration. Other uses include respiratory infections, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, menstrual problems/PMS, skin conditions (perinial repair, acne, eczema, psoriasis, scarring stretch marks), burns, hair loss, insomnia, and nervous tension.

Cypress
The aroma of cypress can ease the feeling of loss and can create a sense of security and grounding. It also helps heal emotional trauma. Other uses include diabetes, circulatory disorders, and cancer.

Lemongrass
Promotes psychic awareness and purification. Other uses for lemongrass are bladder infection, respiratory/sinus infection, digestive problems, parasites, torn ligaments/muscles, fluid retention, varicose veins, and Salmonella.

Geranium
Helps release negative memories and eases nervous tension. It balances the emotions, lifts the spirit, and fosters peace, well-being, and hope. Can be used for hepatitis/fatty liver, skin conditions (dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, acne, vitiligo), fungal infections (ringworm), viral infections (Herpes, shingles), hormone imbalances, circulatory problems (improves blood flow), menstrual problems/PMS.

Great post, @brutledge! Those little toys are murderous!

I am curious as to why you decided to use lavender oil though?

Great question, @alchemage! The lavender was used mostly for nervous tension. I absolutely love the smell of lavender, so it's always a great addition in my opinion. Lavender is considered a middle note in the perfume world so it helps to balance the other aromas. I should also add that the lemongrass stands out among the other oils, so adding more lavender or geranium would be wise if lemongrass is too much to handle!
