Several people I know got crazy about the trailer. So this morning, I took a look to see what the hype was all about.
The first thing that stands out to me is the Nirvana song “Something in the Way”. Interesting song choice for a trailer. I like it.
Most of it is super dark and edgy, which is what I’ve come to expect from Batman by now. It’s cool, but it’s not blowing me away. I have fond memories of the Nolan movies and the Arkham games, but at the same time, I’m feeling a bit Batman-overdosed.
Then the big standout moment of the trailer happens. Some poor mook gets an attitude with Batman and tries to attack. We all know the mook has no chance, but I wasn’t expecting Batman to go that berserk. Certain depictions of Batman fighting can be brutal looking (see Arkham finishing moves) but we rarely see Batman punching a bad guy several times after he’s already subdued.
The final moment that stood out for me was Batman in the cave. Robert Pattinson without the mask, looks well, different.
I hope it’s going to be a good movie, I really do. But the trailer alone was decent for me. I liked the Dawn of Justice trailer more, and then I disliked the final movie. Hopefully the final movie of The Batman is awesome.
