Razor rash is a common problem for some men when they shave. These rashes occur because you have sensitive skin or you do not have the right shaving technique. Razor rash are red bump marks on the skin that looks and feels irritating. The worst thing about it is that it does not go away that easily and it stays there for several days. Here are a few tips you can use before, during and after shaving to prevent having a razor rash.

You should avoid having a dry skin especially when you are shaving. Keep your skin hydrated and a bit moist. That is why it is better to shave after showering when your skin is still moist.

Some men use hot water to splash on their face when shaving but this is not a good idea. When you are shaving, you want your pores to be neutral, not closed or open pores. Hot water opens up your skin pores which should not be the case. So just use lukewarm water when shaving. Hot water dries out the skin and since your skin pores are open, the shaving cream can clog the pores causing your skin to swell or have rashes.

Another cause of razor burns and rash are dull razors. If you have dull and old razors, just throw them out and buy a new one. Perhaps most men have experienced itchiness and red marks caused by dull razors which do not glide easily along the skin.

We shave and clean our skin for hygiene but do we do the same for our razors and shaving tools? Our razors accumulate dead skin flakes, facial hair and shaving cream inside it. All of these can go back to your skin if you do not clean your razor. If you use a dirty razor, it will irritate your skin causing rashes.

Shaving cream is very effective in preventing razor rash. It would be better if you can find a shaving cream that is also a moisturizer and made specifically for sensitive skin. These products are milder and gentler on the skin.

Use a good shaving technique. Always go in the direction as with the hair growth. Use a downward shaving motion if the hair grows downward.

It is better if you can shave in one direction only and not turning your shave into different directions. You can have a tendency to shave in different directions if you are shaving a hard to reach area. So you have to avoid this as much as possible.

After shaving, do not forget to moisturize your skin. To do this, you have to apply a moisturizing cream on the shaved area of your face.
