Enuresis or bed wetting as it is commonly called is a condition when the child passes urine during his /her sleep. For infants & young children, urination is involuntary. By the time children reach the age of 4 yrs., they achieve some level of control. While daytime control is usually achieved first, nighttime control comes later.
A Very Common Problem

As a parent, you must understand that enuresis is involuntary. If your child is wetting the bed, he/she needs your parental support and assistance. Bedwetting is more common in boys and depends upon the child’s development & maturity, overall physical & emotional health. Chronic illness may increase the problem so be aware of what’s involved.

Some Home Treatments

Your child might gain bladder control overtime & that too without any treatment. But you should allow your child to overcome the situation on his/her own. These home treatments may stop bedwetting:

Careful Liquid Consumption: Monitor the consumption of liquid and encourage your child to drink 40% of their requirement in the morning, 40% in noon and remaining 20% in the evening.

Lower Caffeine Consumption: Make sure that your child is not consuming too much caffeine. Caffeine is diuretic, which means that it promotes excretion of urine. So avoid cola-drinks, chocolate, and tea as they contain caffeine.

Toilet Training: Make it a habit of your child to use the toilet before going to bed. Remind your child to get up during the night to go to the bathroom. You might keep a night light near the toilet, or you may even consider keeping a potty chair beside the bed.

Self-Help: You may even let your child solve the problem on own if he or she is older than 4.
Reward: Another way to stop bedwetting in a child is by praising and rewarding your child for more dry nights. A good way is to involve the child as well. Just use a calendar and put stars or stickers on the days that your child doesn’t wet the bed.

What You Should Avoid

• Never scold or abuse the child and have patience about changing the bed linen. Better have patience and don’t get offended by the smell of urine.

• Don’t wake-up your child at odd-hours in the night and never punish them as it may make the problem worse.

Make the best use of these home-based treatments to stop bed wetting in your child and rest assured he/she will stop wetting the bed with time. For more info visit https://shieldbedwettingalarm.com/shop/bed-wetting-alarm
